The Design Process Behind Character Quest – An AI-Integrated Mini Game

Why I Built This Tool

Character Quest began with a belief in the power of stories. When I was younger, I went through many difficult years on my own. Stories helped me move forward. They showed people who failed, got back up, kept their faith, and took action until life rose again. They reminded me that difficult seasons can pass.

Today, we live in an AI focused generation. Trends change quickly, and we cannot chase all of them. Instead, I ask myself what I truly need, and what I want to build for others. When I help clients create automation systems, I also want to create tools that reflect my values. Character Quest grew from this intention.

The Original Idea

My first idea was an email based tool. Users would share their struggles, and the system would send a paired story. The story came from a real historical or biblical figure who faced a similar challenge. It was meaningful, but I realized that most people do not want long emails. Many people prefer something light, visual, and fast. This insight changed the direction.

Turning Reflection Into a Mini Game

Character Quest became a mini game. Users pick one to three struggles, the system matches them with a character, and a character card appears. The process takes only a few seconds, and the card becomes a small moment of encouragement. (Hey, this character walked a similar path with you!) The purpose is not prediction or advice. It is a gentle touchpoint that helps people gain perspective and feel less alone.

Designing the Cards

The card design follows a clear direction. The style is bright, playful, and simple. The text is minimal. The layout is mobile-friendly and easy to download and share. Each card is designed to feel uplifting, but still respectful and grounded enough for the West Coast Cultural Lab.

There is no login and no waiting. The card appears instantly. This keeps the experience smooth and enjoyable.

What I Hope It Brings

Character Quest is not meant to fix problems. It is a small reflective tool. It connects personal struggles with stories from history. If one card helps someone feel seen, encouraged, or not alone, then the project has done its job.

Many people worry that AI may replace human creativity. I prefer to think about how AI can empower our ideas, support imagination, and help us build thoughtful and meaningful tools. Character Quest is one small example of what becomes possible when creativity and technology work together.
